THE AGE OF THE 'EXPERT' IS OVER

WE HAVE BEEN BOXED INTO FIXED ROLES FOR TOO LONG

PEOPLE ARE MADE OF A SPECTRUM OF OVERLAPPING IDENTITIES

I AM MANY THINGS

Hi, I'm Nishant

My name is Nishant Pai and I am graduate with a degree in Architecture (batch of 2016) from University of Pune. I am currently based in Pune and working as a Design Lead and Business Development Executive at RUR Greenlife, a holistic environmental solutions company based in Mumbai. I am the co-founder of Community Natural Building Programme, a research, design and build practice centered around promoting sustainability. I also work as a freelance graphic artist, architect and interior designer for a varied clientele. I was previously employed as a Junior Research Associate at the Curry Stone Design Collaborative in Mumbai, India. At CSDC, we engage with marginalized communities to co-create sustainable spaces to live, work and play.

I previously worked at the Kamla Raheja Vidhyanidhi Institute of Architecture as a researcher for BinuCom (Building Inclusive Urban Communities) a European Union Erasmus+ funded programme aimed at capacity building for higher education institutions by creating open source course-ware for inclusive housing, strengthening community ties with stakeholders, organizing local dissemination workshops and holding workshops based on research findings with students. I authored a research paper titled 'The production of Informality : The causes and catalysts of informal settling in the MMR'

I was fortunate enough to attend architecture school from the University of Pune and it was during my 5 year education that I came to realize the potential and sheer power that sensitive and sustainable design has in making our world a better place. The two most important things I learnt at architecture school were; the context appropriate applicability of design thinking to try to solve core societal issues beyond just the scope of built form; and the responsibility and humility with which to approach such issues.

I strive to apply these learnings to socio-political and economic problems by using design innovation and closed loop sustainable technologies to empower communities with the help of holistic  design.
