COMMUNITY ORIENTED NATURAL BUILDING

Exploring Natural Building principles and techniques by community learning and sharing that knowledge with the building fraternity and grass root levels.

The Community Natural Building Programme is aims to build a community around knowledge creation and dissemination of natural sustainable and closed loop methods of living through indigenous research and practice. We focus on shared experience and humble learnings to form a community of like minded individuals to further natural building practices.

The community was formed by Kunnal Mistry, Advait Deshmukh, Sanket Munshi, Amit Purohit, Aseem Puranik and myself, along with the Adventure Seekers team. Our engagements arise out the Adventure Seekers Camptunes campsite in Panshet, a vibrant space on the banks of the Panshet Dam that is currently used for camping activities. The various programmatic requirements of the site is being developed using natural building methods like earth bag and bamboo. We have designed workshop modules around specific aspects of the building process to engage with architecture students from Pune and also with the people of Panshet village.

We hope to grow our community by inviting thinkers and practitioners interested in equitable and sustainable modes of living to teach and learn together.

The roof is designed as an undulating thatch sheet resting on the thick earth bag walls. With ample openings and skylights, it is ensured to a comfortable space to work during hot summer or cold winter
The upper floor is built on a deck and has wattle and daub walls. This reduces the load on the earthbag walls
The building is plastered with a base layer of cob, and finished with a mixture of cowdung and lime.
